Are you a good fit for solar?

Matt explains that his house was a little tricky when it came to adding solar – it wasn’t a perfect candidate because of his roof’s smaller size and east/west direction. However, four years ago, he found a local solar installer using EnergySage to compare quotes and calculated that he could still see savings by going solar.

Calculating your solar savings

Every home is different: from the roof angle, direction, and size to your energy usage, electricity rates, and net metering, your house’s build and location will impact your solar savings. So, you will see a different payoff for your solar than a family member or even your neighbor. Using our Solar Calculator, you can get a quick estimate on your payback period, which is an average of 8.7 years on EnergySage right now.

In Matt’s video, he breaks down his energy usage and how he ultimately determined that yes, his solar panels are worth it! Matt shares, “Anyone that tells you that solar panels are worth it no matter what should be ignored. And the same is true from anyone that says solar panels are a scam and will never work.”

It’s solid advice: before going solar, you’ll need to determine if you’re a good fit based on your individual situation, home, and goals. In most cases, though, you can save money by going solar!
